I bought Advait's gulals last year. We loved them so much that I'm pre-ordering them for holi this year too. These gulals are made from real natural flowers without any chemicals in them. They really do wash off easily and were very soft. I loved it!

Nisha Taneja

Advait's gulals are the safest colours you'll find for your kids. I have been using them for last 3 years and trust me when I say they do not have any chemicals in them. They smell amazing too!

Vijaya Nair

I avoid holi every year because my skin breaks out with holi colours. A friend got me Advait's holi gulals as a gift and assured me of their safety. I tested it out on my hand before using it. I was very pleasantly surprised when it did not cause any rashes or redness. They really are good and genuine!

Description

Soft, pastel, and chemical-free – make this Holi memorable with our Premium Organic Holi Gulals! These are soft to the touch and easy to apply. They come in beautiful pastel shades that are sure to make the day brighter and joyful.

What are our Holi colours made of?

Our Holi gulals are made with 100% edible agricultural produce, flowers & vegetables only.

  • Blush Pink: Our soft pink gulal is made from rose petals, beetroot and the fragrance of rose.
  • Bright Yellow: Our bright yellow gulal is made from marigold flowers & turmeric & essential oils.
  • Sky Blue: Our sky blue gulal is made from orchid flowers, and natural indigo & essential oils.
  • Tangy Orange: Our tangy orange gulal is made from tesu flower, marigold, raw turmeric, beetroot and essential oils.

Our base is arrowroot starch and wheat flour.

Why are our gulals pastel?

Because we don't use any synthetic dyes to make them. Synthetic dyes or pigments are commonly used to get bright or shiny colours and textures.

No Stains: Our gentle gulals leave no stain on your skin and washes off very easily.

100% Compostable: You can compost our gulals at home without any fear. They are free of nasties and will decompose naturally, just like the flowers do. They will not contaminate your soil or water systems.

Making Process

In India, organic gulals have been made by sun-drying seasonal flowers and vegetables to get beautiful and soft colours to paint each other with on Holi!

At Advait Living (Farms), we follow the same tradition. Fresh and seasonal ingredients are sourced from sustainable micro-farmers. The ingredients are all sun-dried over days and ground manually. To make them gentler to use, we use arrowroot starch as our base. Extracts of fresh ingredients are also used to add more hues to the arrowroot base. Drops of essential oils are added in the end to the mixture. Once the mixture is 100% dried, we pack them carefully in sustainable packaging for you.

No synthetic dyes are added to our colours, which is why they are pastel in hues and feel soft on your skin.

What is the difference between regular Holi Colours and Gulals?

Colours: 'Holi colours' are well-known for their ability to leave a stain on the skin and even walls. The reason that happens, is because these are made from strong industrial dyes and pigments. Moreover, these may also contain silica, asbestos, and other carcinogenic ingredients. They can not only be harsh to the skin, but may also pose health hazards to humans, animals and even the earth. For example: Green colour could be derived from copper sulphate, which is a common agricultural poison or purple that may be made from chromium and bromide compounds, which are both carcinogenic. Another common dye used is Gentian Violet, which is is a mutagen, a mitotic poison, and a clastogen.

Natural gulals: On the other hand, are gentle and made from safer ingredients. Our gulals are made traditionally with flowers, herbs and vegetables. They 100% safe to apply and wont damage skin, hair or your health.

How do you make your organic gulals?

Advait Living (Farms) is bring back the lost tradition of making Gulals and water colours from flowers and herbs! Our gulals are made by milling real flowers, herbs and edible produce together to get soft textured gulals for you. They are 100% 'natural', 'safe', 'non-toxic'.

  • Pastel Pink: Our soft pink gulal is made from rose petals, beetroot and fragrance of rose.
  • Our base is arrowroot starch and wheat flour.

Although they are made from edible ingredients, we advice you not to consume them.

Are these suitable for all skin types?

They are extremely kind and suitable for all skin-types. However, some ingredients may not be suitable for your particular skin. It is always advisable to do a patch test first and check compatibility before use.

Please do refer to the ingredient list to see if you have any specific allergies to any of the ingredients mentioned above.

Colours make my skin patchy. Will they give a rash?

Holi colours, made from Industrial dyes and sometimes even mica, can make the skin patchy and leave a rash. Moreover, they require repeatedly washing with soaps and scrubbing the skin. This aggravates a lot of skin damage.

Our gulals are extremely gentle to the skin and wash off very easily with water! No dryness or skin damage will take place due to excessive scrubbing during your bath either.

How do I wash off these gulals?

Our natural and gentle gulals wash off very easily with water! Just simply pour water over skin and see them come off!

I have office the next day, will these stain my skin?

Pucca colours, made from industrial dyes, are characteristic for permanent staining. Our gulals will leave no staining on the skin, ears, nose or in the hair! You can safely resume office, work or even attend a formal gathering the same evening.

I have a small baby at home and I do want to play Holi with the baby. Are these gulals safe for children?

Be worry-free. Our gulals and water colours are made of food-grade edible material and 100% safe for children. Lets leave worry behind and bring joy back in to Holi!

I have animals at home. Are these safe for them?

While our holi collection is 100% safe for animals, avoid exposing your pets to activities that may discomfort them.

What makes them 'earth friendly'?

Holi Colours, made from industrial dyes and pigments, are highly toxic to the environment as they may burn plants in the vicinity and these leech in under-ground waters when washed off. The impact remains for months/years together.
